Abstract- The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into education has accelerated with the emergence of chatbots and virtual assistants, reshaping the landscape of teaching and learning. These tools provide interactive, real-time, and adaptive support, enabling students to clarify goals, receive instant feedback, and engage in continuous learning beyond classroom boundaries. Chatbots foster social presence and motivation through conversational strategies such as personalized responses and interactive cues, while virtual assistants extend functionality by managing complex tasks, enhancing accessibility, and delivering personalized content. Together, these AI-driven applications improve student engagement, motivation, and self-regulation, especially in online and blended environments. Despite promising outcomes, challenges such as data privacy, overdependence on technology, reduced human interaction, and ethical concerns require careful consideration. Comparative perspectives from Western and Indian contexts reveal both common benefits and context-specific challenges, underscoring the need for responsible adoption. This study highlights AI’s potential to complement human teaching by bridging gaps in access, promoting inclusivity, and supporting lifelong learning, while also emphasizing the importance of ethical safeguards and balanced integration.
Keywords-Artificial Intelligence, Chatbots, Virtual Assistants, Student Engagement, Adaptive Learning.
