Purpose of Review
Peer review helps the editor assess originality, validity, relevance, clarity and ethical compliance. Reviewers advise the editor; they do not make the final publication decision.
Reviewer Responsibilities
- Accept only assignments that match their expertise and available time.
- Disclose financial, professional, institutional or personal conflicts before reviewing.
- Treat the manuscript and all related correspondence as confidential.
- Assess the work fairly and without discrimination or hostile language.
- Identify major strengths, limitations, unsupported claims and essential revisions.
- Do not use unpublished ideas, data or text for personal advantage.
- Alert the editor to suspected duplication, plagiarism, manipulation or ethical concern.
Recommended Report Structure
- Brief summary of the work and contribution
- Major comments affecting validity or interpretation
- Minor comments on clarity, presentation and references
- Confidential comments to the editor where necessary
- Recommendation supported by reasons
Reviewers should not ask authors to cite the reviewer’s work unless the citation is genuinely relevant and necessary.
