Article summary

Abstract

The fabrication of hydrothermally synthesized molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2) nanosheet-based membranes represents a promising advancement in membrane technology for applications in water purification, gas separation, and energy storage. This study focuses on the hydrothermal synthesis of MoS 2 nanosheets, their characterization, and the subsequent fabrication of high-performance membranes. MoS 2 nanosheets were synthesized using a simple hydrothermal method, optimizing parameters such as temperature, reaction time, and precursor concentration to achieve uniform and defect-free nanosheets. The synthesized nanosheets were characterized using Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) to confirm their structural integrity, morphology, and chemical composition. The MoS 2 nanosheets were then incorporated on a Whatman filter paper using a simple vacuum-assisted filtration setup to fabricate membrane. This study highlights the potential of hydrothermally synthesized MoS 2 nanosheets in the fabrication of a simple & easy filtration membrane for sustainable and efficient separation processes.
