Abstract

The present study aims to evaluate the role of biofertilizers and microbial inoculants in plant disease management and their impact on sustainable food security. In contemporary agricultural systems, excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides adversely affects soil fertility, biodiversity, and environmental balance. In this context, bio-based and microbial products emerge as effective alternatives to enhance crop growth, disease resistance, and productivity. The study was conducted on major crops—wheat, chickpea, and rice—in the Etawah district, assessing the effects of different treatments: biofertilizers alone, microbial inoculants alone, combined application, and control. Data were collected through experimental field plots, structured farmer interviews, and secondary sources. The analysis was performed using descriptive, comparative, and graphical methods. Results revealed that combined application significantly improved control over pathogenic microorganisms, reduced disease incidence by 35–55%, increased plant growth and leaf area, and enhanced crop yield by approximately 20–34%. Additionally, dependence on chemical pesticides decreased, reducing production costs and maintaining environmental balance. The findings align with national and international studies, confirming the efficacy of biofertilizers and microbial inoculants. This research highlights the scientific and practical significance of bio-products in promoting sustainable agriculture, plant health, and food security. Furthermore, it provides directions for future research, including identification of locally adapted microbial strains, long-term impact assessment, development of crop-specific application packages, and policy interventions.
